There are 2 modes in this self-explanatory feature which are Background Recording and On Demand Recording. The former will be recorded automatically your epic win or utter stupidity death which Steam will remember, always. The latter is vice versa where you press start and stop manually.
Replay – Quickly Jump Back In Time
It is a useful tool to watch back what went wrong in your playthrough, what killed your hero or if you’re like me, recalling something that’s being mentioned by some unnamed NPC weeks ago that is somehow very crucial to the story. This feature is available in the Steam Overlay.
Clip – Find And Keep The Good Stuff
Steam’s Game Recording also features video editing tool to make it easy for you to access the footage easily, clip it, make simple touch ups and discard other parts of the footage so you don’t have to spend time sorting through longer unusable footage.
Share – Conveniently Send Clips
What’s the point of recording your gameplay sessions if it’s not to brag about or share a laugh with your friends. This one-click sharing feature will automatically share your clip to a friend via chat, post or to your personal bragging collection on your PC storage of how you beat that boss in first try or how you land that headshot from a mile away.

In your recording footages, there will be event markers being integrated automatically to show you where the important events happened, whether it is your Steam achievements, your first kill or any other kinds of worthwhile events that was being set by the game developers. It will appear whenever you’re actively recording! You can also put markers manually so you can check it back after the recording sessions.
If you prefer to game handheld via Steam Deck, good news! You can also utilize the Game Recording as it is fully functional on the device. Although the reviews for Game Recording on Steam Deck shows that it is a bit clunky, it is very much usable from the get go. Valve will most probably will improve this feature immensely in the future as it gains quite the traction in the gaming community and content creators.
