Epic Games and Disney are partnering up? Seriously?

This collaboration was unveiled at the Disney Experiences Showcase during D23 2024. The crossover kicks off next week with characters from The Mandalorian, including Grogu, debuting on August 12. Following this, Fortnite’s upcoming season will spotlight Doctor Doom with Chapter 5 Season 4: Absolute Doom, launching on August 16. This season will feature Marvel-themed skins and items, as shown in a trailer for Absolute Doom.

Doctor Doom is the central Marvel figure in this latest Fortnite update, but he’s not alone. The trailer also features X-Men characters like Cable, Cyclops, Rogue, Jubilee, and Colossus, along with the Spider-Man villain Mysterio. Additionally, cosmetics and weapons inspired by characters such as Sabretooth, Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Panther appear in the footage, highlighting the continued strong relationship between Marvel and Fortnite.

Disney also used the D23 showcase to demonstrate its deepening involvement with Fortnite. This autumn, Fortnite players can expect to see Disney villains like Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook. Pixar characters, including the superhero family from The Incredibles, will also make an appearance, with content featuring Mr. and Mrs. Incredible and Frozone.

These announcements come after Disney’s acquisition of a $1.5 billion (RM6.2 billion) stake in Fortnite developer Epic Games in March. At that time, Disney expressed a desire to strengthen its partnership with the studio and increase its presence in the gaming industry. This extensive list of Fortnite character additions seems to be just the beginning of what this partnership will offer.
