APA Level

For sure, most of us, if not all, know and remember what Pokemon trading cards are all about. Back in the day, it was one of the top topics for the nerds in school. And some (including us) even bring it to school and play/trade them with friends. So, because of that, we will not be stating any introduction or explaining the legendary history of how it all started and stuff. Let’s head straight to the point.

The Pokemon Company is releasing the new Pokemon trading card game globally for mobile on 30th October 2024 and soft launching in New Zealand on 26th September this year. This is what we know so far.

1. About

This game is a simpler and faster-paced trading card battle of the original (read: OG) Pokemon trading card that is easier to learn and play anywhere at any time. Some might say this is the “Marvel Snap’ of Pokemon, but still too early to tell if it’s going to be good or not (hopefully good).

2. Deck

Deck sizes are much smaller, around 20 cards, and energy cards are no longer included as cards but as points instead in the energy zone during gameplay. Most probably, each player’s turn they’ll gain energy point(s) to play.

3. Battle Style

You’ll have a three-Pokemon bench. This way, the strategy that will be used to play the original physical Pokemon TCG may not be relevant in this particular battle style. It’ll suit the faster-paced playstyle of this game.

Battle will be short around 5 minutes, depending on the gameplay. This quick and compact style is the main go-to for Pokemon TCG Pocket.

4. Prize Card System

The traditional price card system is not a thing anymore; instead, you’ll earn points for defeating Pokemon. 1 point for a standard Pokemon and 2 points for stronger ones.

5. Cards

The cards are interactive, as some of you might know from Marvel Snap, which is an amazing thing to have. Add more reasons why collectors should hop on this game and collect all the rare skins or visuals for their Pokemon. Also for those who like to flex on your opponent and win (or lose) with style.

And of course, for every card game, there will be different rarities for cards. Differentiated by diamonds at the bottom left of the cards.

You will be able to open up 2 free card packs a day for free, and for us, that’s quite a generous move. Speaking of generous moves, for sure the game will feature microtransaction in-app purchases for those who have no idea what to do with money or just want to live an easy life with no hardship at all. But hey, at least the game is free to play with no ads.

6. Trading System

They announced that there will be a feature where you can trade your Pokemon cards with your friends and help each other out on the journey to catch ‘em all! Maybe there’ll be some kind of limitation on what and how often you can trade, but there’s no info about it yet.

We already set the notification on our App Store and can’t wait to play this and review it. Hopefully, it is not as bad as Pokemon TCG Live. Let us know in the comments, are you hyped up about this as us or you’re more of a Digimon fan?
