A brutal PvPvE experience where every bullet counts! Hunt: Showdown is a multiplayer extraction first-person shooter game from Crytek (the developer of Crysis) released back in 2018. The goal of the game is to get the bounty tokens by killing bosses and getting out alive while being hunted by other players. The match starts with 12 players spawned randomly and you can get into the match solo, or in teams of up to 3 players.
Now, Crytek has come forth by announcing the “Engine Update” to fix some issues alongside improving the gameplay aspect of the game. The free update will be released on August 15, 2024 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The support for PS4 and Xbox One will be discontinued.

Overhaul UI and UX is one of the most notable update first thing we will notice to better the experience on consoles while maintaining the accessibility on PC for new and old players. It features a much simplistic and minimalist approach to declutter the convoluted current menu screen. You can entirely navigate the menu screen by using D-Pad and arrow keys.
Crytek and the developers of Hunt: Showdown will give a weekly update for the upcoming changes to the Engine Update until the update drops and you can find their YouTube account here to have a better understanding and a more detail explanation.

There is not much change in the lobby but some simple QOLs where we can quickly see the gameplay options, weekly challenges and tribute reward without having to switching from one tab to another as of right now. It is a nice-to-have feature that will make the user experience easier.
Hunters now come with rarity, ranked by their cosmetic appearance from rookie up to mythic and color coded in the menu screen for better readability. The cost of recruiting hunters will remain the same which is 100 in-game currencies for all hunters, no matter their rarity.
The roster and recruitment menu screen will be more expansive so that you will spend less time at the lobby and more time playing the actual match. It features more than 30 hunters you can pick from in one single screen and made easier with scrolling rather than clicking.
Weekly challenges will now be the same for everyone and I am not sure if this is the right approach but I trust Crytek to know what’s best for the gameplay changes that will come because of this. One thing that will happen is the first week of the month will be consisted of players with similar loadouts, it is certainly going to give the meta-user players a change in their loadouts so that’s a win in my book.

Traits is the buff and passives that the selected hunters will bring to the match to get an advantage over other players according to one’s own playstyle. Certain traits have conditions, such as the burn trait that was currently being implemented in the game, and a new condition which is scarce trait, where hunters only can get them while in the Bayou. Some traits even have both of them.
They are a various changes to the traits, most notably the necromancer trait where players can only be revived once to avoid long stalemates. Talking about long stalemates, choke beetle and choke cloud duration will be reduced to encourage actions, albeit pushing or retreating, from the players.
Prestige systems and reward progression overhauled! This update will make me want to prestige after 600 hours in the game. It comes with much a more rewarding experience and not as frustrating due to the fact the guns unlocked come with all of their bullet types. There are more than 10 hunters that you can get which will remain unlocked for you to purchase in the future. The developers promise that the hunters in the prestige will have their own name and backstories. You can even unlock the ‘training hunter’, John Victor in prestige 100.
